The visit of Mr Mayor
A very proud day for St Theresa’s PS when the Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District called today for our Friday morning assembly. What an honour and a pleasure and we as a school are so thankful for Mr Mayor taking the time out of his busy schedule to call with us.
Today we presented Mr Mayor with a cheque of £250 raised for the UNICEF Children in Gaza Appeal after our recent fundraising events in November. Mr Mayor spoke to the children about this initiative that he has led and we are pleased, with the support of our families, to make this contribution.
As a Catholic school which sees Faith as paramount in everything we do, our Student Council performed a beautiful assembly on ‘Normal lives called to Holiness.’ We thank Jamie Donnelly Music for the uplifting music that allowed all our children to sing to Mr Mayor at the end of assembly.
Antaine, our Irish tutor and good friend of St Theresa’s, brought the best out of our children today in the Irish language. Not only was Mr Mayor impressed with the children’s fluency in Irish but we too are very thankful of Cllr Antaine Ó Fearghail for all his support.
Finally, what an honour it was for our Star of the Week gang to receive their certificates and photographs from Mr Mayor. He was very impressed to hear how our children are recognised on a weekly basis. We do have the best children and today all our pupils did themselves proud.
No celebration is complete without tea and refreshments and we thank the Mayor for taking the time to be with the staff afterwards.
Thank you Mr Mayor (Ruairí) for visiting, as well as Mal your chauffeur. Call anytime!
